Dodongo's Cavern

In Dodongo’s Cavern you will see a door that you couldn’t open. You will have to get a bomb from the Bomb Flowers and use it to blast open the door. Enter the cave and a character named Navi will talk to you, pay attention to what she says especially about the lava pits.

Jump to the pillar that is moving up and down. When the platform is at the top, jump to the middle platform. You will see an eyeball statue shooting laser beams. Just try to avoid the eyeball’s line of sight and you’re good to go. Turn right across to the pillar, and then to the other ledge. There are two doors that you will have to blow up here – blow up the one on the right. Now go through the door your just blew up.

Take note that the enemies in the next room, although small and very easy to defeat, curl up and explode once defeated. Just stay away from the explosion and you should be fine. Kill the first three and then another group of three will pop up as you go down the hallway.

Notice the wall on your left? This wall can be blown up. Kill one of the enemies near the door and it will open up a secret path. This will lead you to a room with three bats. Kill them using your Fairy Slingshot. You will find a Skulltula on the wall. Defeat it and you get another Gold Skulltula.

Go back to the previous room, go right and go up to the platform above where you should find a blue button. Step on this button and this releases the gate blocking the door. As soon as you release the button the gate fall back down. What you do is use one of the status on the side (A button) and drag it on top of the button to hold it down. You should then be able to pass through the door.

In the next room there are pots with some hidden treasures. Grab these and go into the room through the door at the end of the hall. As you go through the door locks behind you.

You will be battling 2 lizard creatures which are pretty easy to defeat. Just deal with them one at a time. Block their strike and just counter attack with the jump attack. defeated, go through the door and continue.

In the next room you will encounter Dodongo enemies. The way to defeat them is through their tail - when you strike their tail they turn around and breathe fire. Just focus on the tail – while they turn around move along them to stay behind them. Use a bomb to blast open the wall beside the entrance to this room. There is a small room here with a Deku Scrub. You’ll have to use your Fairy Slingshot to shoot Deku Seeds at the scrub. This scrub will then sell you Deku Sticks for 15 Rupees. You’ll be needing some so if you are running low better get some.

From this small room go back to the main room. Kill all of the Dodongos here but take note - they will explode just before dying. Get a Deku Stick light it up using the torch and light the three other torches. In doing so the door at the end of the hall will open. Go past the door and step on the button. Go back to the main room and go on top of the pillar that’s going up and down. Just keep going straight across this room.

When you see a wall with cracks on it, get a bomb from a bomb flower and use it to blow up the wall. You should see a chest inside. In it you will find a Dungeon Map. Take it and go through the door.

Again use a bomb to blast open the wall, and you should see the path leading to the next room. As you go through the door it closes behind you. You will find some statues here. The on in the center is alive and moves once you touch it. Just throw a bomb at the statue and then use your sword to finish it off. There is a chest that you can open and inside you will find a Compass that you can use.

Go back to the previous room. You will notice there are a number of Bomb flowers. There is a bomb flower by the door you went through. You will have to take this bomb flower and place it in the empty space in the middle of the room. When this explodes it will also set off all the other bombs. Once that’s done climb up the stairs and once at the top you will find a door. You will come across a Skulltula and also a Gold Skulltula. Once you’ve dealt with them you can climb up the wall to get your Gold Skulltula and then go to the door.

The door again closes behind you as you go through. You will find some bats in this room – you can just kill them using your Fairy Slingshot. There are also four statues here. Three of them are again enemies, just like in the previous room. You can kill them the same way you did before (using a bomb to blow them up before they become alive). Once all three are done you will have to move the one remaining statue so you can climb up. Go out of this room. You will again see the flaming bats flying around so be careful. Keep going until you enter the next room.

You will have to jump down to the bottom of this room. There are some spikes here so watch out. Look for a block underneath a ladder. Pull this block away from the wall and you will find a Recovery Heart.

Next go on top of the block and climb the ladder. Turn right, then turn 180 degrees thendrop down onto the pillar with the Bomb Flower and the chest with a Red Rupee. Next you will have to grab and hold a bomb – hold on to it just until it is about to blow then throw the bomb at the wall at the top of the ladder. Now you should be able to go to the next area.

Use your Fairy Slingshot to shoot the eyeball above the door, afterwards jump to the door on the other side. You will then come across the lizards which you will have to fight. You ca use the same technique as before. When you see the long path there are a couple of Recovery Hearts there so you can use those if you’re low on health. Once the lizards are dealt with you can now proceed.

You will come across an eyeball which you can shoot to extinguish the flame. Once extinguished, jump to the platform. On the left side there is another eyeball which will extinguish the second flame. Proceed through the door where you will find a treasure chest in which contains a Bomb Bag. This allows you to place bombs yourself rather than relying on Bomb Flowers and you will be able to carry 20 bombs.

Beside this chest there is an exit that you should take. You will fin a button for you to step on to lift the pillar up. Go right across the bridge on the other side.

Blast this wall open using your Bomb Bag and you will see a small chest with a Blue Rupee. Go back to the bridge – notice that there are 2 gaps. Stand at the edge of the first gap and drop a flower bomb. Do the same thing on the other gap. Doing this the eyes will light up and the mouth will open. Jump down to the main room and go in the mouth door you just opened. There will be bats here - use your Fairy Slingshot to kill them then jump up into the tunnel leading east. Kill all the flaming bats.

On the north end of this room look for a statue. The wall behind this statue can be blasted open. Drop a bomb beside the statue and behind it you will see another Gold Skulltula. This should be your 14th. Climb around this room and make your way across to the west door. You will see a block that you can push down into the room below. Push it down into the hole in the middle them grab the block. Head through the west door and find a small treasure chest containing bombs. Place a bomb in the centre of this room to blast a hole and then drop down the hole in the middle to trigger the boss fight.

This boss is pretty simple to defeat. As he takes in air lift a bomb over your head. Just as the boss is breathing in throw the bomb inside his mouth. When this happens he falls down then you can use the jump attack on him. When he gets up and rolls around, stand onto a 45 degree slope in this room. He will not be able to harm you as long as you are standing on this slope. Just keep doing this 3 to 4 times and when the boss dies grad the Heart Container at the center of the room and take the warp back outside. Darunia appears and you receive the Goron’s Ruby. Now you will head up to Goron City again.
