Zelda Ocarina of Time Walkthrough - Deku Tree
Inside the Deku Tree dungeon you will find more vicious plants (Deku Babas) that unlike the previous plants encountered, these actually charge at you. They don’t go any farther as their stems will allow, so no worries. You can kill them with your sword if you wish. Use either the vines or the ladder to climb up and look for the treasure chest. Open this and obtain the Dungeon Map. Continue along the path until you see a door (press A while against the door). In the middle of the room in the Deku Tree you will find a Deku Scrub coming out of the ground and firing Deku Nuts at you. When you try to approach the little critter to whack it with your sword it hides under ground. What you do is move back until it pops up again and use your shield to deflect the nuts being thrown at you. Hold down the L/Z button to aim at him and then eventually you will be able to chase him down. Once you grab hold of him he will talk to you and a door will open. He will also drop a Recovery Heart. Get this and head towards the door that just opened. In the next room in the Deku Tree you will find a floating platform with you can use to get to the other side. You will find another treasure chest. Open this and get the Fairy Slingshot inside. You can use this to shoot Deku Tree Seeds, of which you are given 30 upon acquiring the slingshot. (You can slash bushes and shrubs to acquire Deku seeds) To the left of the chest you will find a ladder. If you climb up the ladder you will find a chest that contains another Recovery Heart. After getting the Heart you will have to climb back down and use your Fairy Slingshot and aim for the ladder right above the door you came from. The ladder eventually falls and you can then use it to go back to the entrance door you came in from. Go back to the chest where you got the map. Shoot the spiders (Skulltulas) with you slingshot. Once you’ve dealt with then you can now climb up the vines and drop down to the path. You will then find larger Skulltulas. To kill these bigger Skulltulas you will have to wait for them to drop down, spin and eventually reveal their back. Two strikes like this and the Skulltula is dead. Continue along this path and go through the door you come across. In this room, look to your right and find a switch/button. Step on this and 3 platforms will rise. Take note that these platforms do not stay up forever so you will have to move fast. You might come across Gold Skulltulas. Killing these will earn you tokens which you can use to get certain prizes. You will also find a chest that contains another Recovery Heart. Look for a large treasure chest where you will find a Compass that will show you where and treasure chests are hidden in the Deku Tree when viewing the map. Return to the entrance of the room and step on the switch again and head over to the platforms. You will need a Deku Stick (if you don’t have one head down and kill the plant enemy – that will get you a Deku Stick). Walk up to the lit torch to light the Deku Stick. Bring it quickly (do it fast – Deku Sticks burn out) to the unlit torch to light that one. Once done, put the stick away so it doesn’t burn out completely and you won’t waste the entire stick. Now that you have released the bars on the exit door, exit the room. You will have to jump off of the platforms that stretch out to the middle of the room. You will end up falling to break the spider web at the bottom. The trick is to let go of the analog stick as soon as you have jumped so you’ll end up at the center of the spider web and you’ll be sure to break it. At the bottom, use the vines to climb up and you will find another Gold Skulltula. Kill it and get your second token (2 of 100). Get in the water and find a platform slightly underwater that you can stand on. You will find another Gold Skulltula that you can kill for your third token. Get on the platform with the button/switch. Step on the switch to burn the torch behind you. Take out one of your Deku Sticks and light it using the torch. Find the cobwebs and burn it with your lit Deku stick and you will expose a door which you can now pass through to the next room. In the next room you will find another Deku Scrub which will tell you the correct sequence on how to kill the other deku Scrubs that you will encounter. (sequence is 2 - 3 - 1). Once done use your Fairy Slingshot to shoot the silver eyeball, which is actually a switch to open the door to the next room. Here you will find a log with spikes above water which you will have to avoid. To do this jump into the water and dive down to the left to find a switch. Hit this and the water levels will be lowered. The platform is now lower than the rolling spiked log which you can now pass under. Kill the Skulltula and then use the block towards the groove on the floor (To push or pull a block, press A while facing against it to grab it, then use the control stick to move it. To climb onto a block, push the Control Stick towards the block then press A) to enter to the next room. Here there are a bunch of Deku Babas which you should just ignore as they just respawn. What you have to do is use a Deku Stick to ignite all the torches there to unlock the doors. Upon entering kill the Skulltula and head to the center of the room. 3 Enemies (Gohma Larvae) will fall to you, which you kill by aiming for the eyes. Once done use a Deku Stick burn the cobwebs and go through the pathway behind one of the webs on the right side. This is the same room that you were in before. Locate a box and push it over into the water. Get a Deku Stick and light it using the torch below and use the box to go to the web on the floor which you will burn using the lit Deku Stick. You will drop down onto water and you will find the 3 Deku brothers that you will have to defeat in the correct order as was described earlier (2 - 3 - 1). After successfully defeating them they now reveal the secret of Queen Gohma, which turn out to be the first boss you will fight. Upon entering the room in the Deku Tree, look up and you will have eye contact with Queen Gohma, the Parasitic Armored Arachnid. Once she’s noticed you she descends and you can now see her full body. You will have to use your Fairy Slingshot to shoot the eye above. This will stun Queen Gohma after which you can get up to her and slash at her eye like crazy. After doing this she’ll eventually retreat and crawl up the walls and onto the ceiling. From the ceiling she drops eggs that contain her offspring which you will have to break before they hatch. Queen Gohma will drop down and just repeat the same attack strategy until she’s defeated. Pick up the Heart Container that appears which increases your hearts to four. Step into the blue light which will transport you to the front of the Deku Tree. The Deku Tree says a few important words and will finally give you the Kokiri Emerald, and then the Deku Tree dies, because of the curse. Leave the forest heading west. You will come across Saria who will give you the Fairy Ocarina. Done with the Deku Tree?
